*★ Lessons from the book of Ruth - 1*

*_“Trusting God when the other side looks greener”_*

(Ruth 1:1–5)

When we’re in a season of dryness and difficulty, the other side often looks greener and more promising—but we begin to see God’s provision when we choose to trust Him right where we are.

The book of Ruth begins with a famine in Bethlehem— a place known as "the house of bread." It takes place during the days when the judges ruled, a time when people often did what was right in their own eyes. Hoping for better conditions, Elimelech and his family left the promised land for Moab. But what looked like a wise move ended in tragedy, as he and his sons died there.

We see a similar pattern in the life of Lot. Although Sodom was known for its wickedness, he chose to settle near it because the plains appeared well-watered. But in the end, that decision brought destruction to his family.

The Bible also gives many examples of people who saw God’s hand at work when they turned to Him in hard times. The Israelites received manna and water in the desert. A widow at Zarephath saw her flour and oil never run out. Hagar found hope by a well when she cried to God. Dry seasons became places of provision—because they trusted Him.

The challenge is real—will we run after what looks easier, or stay and trust the God who never fails? His provision may not always be instant, but it is always sure.

Gracious Lord, we thank Thee for Thine unfailing provision. When life feels uncertain and dry, help us not to lean on our own understanding but to trust Thee and wait upon Thee. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
