★ Lessons from the life of Joseph - 5
Bcz The Lord was with Joseph
Genesis 39: 1-6, 21-23
1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down thither.
2 And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.
.....
Joseph's life took a dramatic turn when he was sold into slavery and brought to Egypt. Despite his circumstances, Joseph thrived because "the Lord was with him."
As verse 2 highlights, Joseph became a prosperous man in the house of his Egyptian master, Potiphar. This was because the Lord was with him and made all that he did to prosper in his hand. It was so evident that even Potiphar could notice it and that led him to entrust Joseph with greater responsibilities, eventually making him overseer of his entire household. Joseph's rise to this position of trust and authority illustrates how God's presence can elevate an individual even in the most challenging circumstances.
Joseph's story further reveals that the blessings of God upon an individual can extend to others. In verse 5, it is noted that the Lord blessed Potiphar's house "for Joseph's sake." This blessing was comprehensive, affecting everything in Potiphar's household and fields. This ripple effect of divine favor highlights a crucial aspect of Joseph's life: his blessings were not confined to him alone but overflowed to those around him.
Our success and ability to impact others positively are deeply rooted in our relationship with God. Seeking and nurturing this divine connection can lead to a life marked by prosperity, influence, and blessings for ourselves and those around us.
Even in prison, Joseph continued to experience God's favor. Verses 21-23 describe how the Lord was with Joseph, showing him mercy and granting him favor with the keeper of the prison. This favor led to Joseph being put in charge of all the prisoners and the prison's operations. Once again, the text emphasizes that whatever Joseph did, "the Lord made it to prosper."
Later on we also read Pharaoh testifying that the Spirit of God was with Joseph (41:38) and he made Joseph ruler over all the land of Egypt. Joseph's influence grew because he demonstrated God’s power and presence. Our conduct and faith can similarly be a testimony to others, drawing them closer to God and positively impacting their lives.
Take away:
¶ With the Lord's presence, we can overcome adversity, achieve great success, and be a source of blessing to others.
¶ By maintaining our integrity, being faithful, and recognizing the divine purpose in our lives, we can ensure that God's favor not only enriches our lives but also extends to those around us.
📖 Verse for the day 📖
Psalm 1:3
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
