★ *Lessons from the life of Joseph - 8*
_*"Finding Strength to Encourage Others in Difficult Times"*_
*Genesis 40:5-8*
_5 Then the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each man's dream in one night and each man's dream with its own interpretation._
_6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning and looked at them, and saw that they were sad._
_7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the custody of his lord's house, saying, "Why do you look so sad today?"_
_8 And they said to him, "We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it." So Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please."_
It’s amazing to see Joseph’s response in this moment. If anyone had a reason to be sad, it was Joseph! His life had been full of trials: he was sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned despite his innocence. Yet here, he was the one showing concern for others. Joseph, though surrounded by suffering, could ask the butler and the baker why they were sad.
This speaks to Joseph’s extraordinary character. Even though he was enduring his own hardships, he chose to encourage those around him rather than focus on his pain. His compassion came from a deep understanding that God was with him, even in the darkest times. Joseph’s faith allowed him to look beyond his struggles and extend a helping hand to others, sharing the hope and peace he found in God.
We see a similar story in Acts 16, where Paul and Silas, also imprisoned unjustly, chose to sing praises to God instead of giving in to despair. Their faith led to an incredible miracle—not only were they freed, but the jailer and his family found salvation. Both Joseph and Paul and Silas show us that, even in our darkest moments, we can be a light to others when we put our trust in God.
Encouraging others during our hardships may seem impossible, but when we rely on God’s presence, we find supernatural strength to care for those around us. Both Joseph and Paul knew that God was with them, guiding them, and using them as vessels of hope. Through their stories, we learn that faith gives us the courage to be a light, even in the darkest of prisons.
*Take away:*
¶ Remembering that God is with us gives us strength and peace, even in challenging times.
¶ By encouraging others, we spread hope, showing God’s light to those who may need it most.
*📖 Verse for the day 📖*
